Multi-entity consolidation without the week-long close
Rolling up subsidiaries and eliminating intercompany balances is usually a spreadsheet marathon. It doesn't have to be, when every entity's actuals already reconcile to source.
By The Rexfin team
Consolidation season has a familiar shape: pull trial balances from every entity, map them to a common chart of accounts, eliminate intercompany balances, and pray the elimination entries actually net to zero. Most of that week is spent chasing why they don’t.
The elimination problem is a reconciliation problem
Intercompany eliminations only work cleanly if both sides of the transaction are traceable to the same underlying source: the invoice, the intercompany loan agreement, the transfer-pricing schedule. When each entity’s numbers were extracted and reconciled independently, elimination is guesswork with a spreadsheet formula on top.
Consolidate on a reconciled base, not a re-keyed one
Rexfin’s evidence layer extracts each entity’s actuals from what was actually filed (PDF statements, ERP exports, bank feeds) and reconciles every figure back to the printed subtotal before it ever reaches the group model. Roll-up and elimination work on top of that same reconciled base, at the capability level a multi-entity group needs: a common chart of accounts, entity-level roll-up, and elimination logic that traces back to source on both sides of the entry.
Where full elimination-rule depth isn’t live yet for a given structure, we say so plainly: “Coming soon” rather than a feature claim, because a half-true consolidation claim is worse than no claim.
What this changes for a group close
- Entity actuals arrive already reconciled, so consolidation starts from agreement instead of starting the reconciliation work over again at the group level.
- Every consolidated figure keeps its citation chain down to the entity and the source document.
- The group model stays in IFRS presentation shape by default, so the close doesn’t need a separate re-formatting pass before the board pack goes out.
