Need every audited filing from the last two fiscal years? That’s one filter combination, not a folder-by-folder search. Need to see what’s still sitting in draft review versus what’s been marked audited? The status filter answers that directly instead of making you open each file to check.

The list is paginated in a way that stays stable even while documents are being added concurrently: a filter you ran five minutes ago won’t silently shift or duplicate rows just because someone uploaded something new in the meantime. That sounds like a small detail until you’re the one trying to page through 200 documents during a live close and the list keeps moving under you.

Managing many documents at once

Tagging and classifying documents one at a time doesn’t scale past a handful of filings. The library supports bulk operations: apply a tag or change a document type across a selected batch in a single action, available to anyone with contributor access or above. Each batch runs as one transaction, and if a document id in the selection turns out to be invalid or already gone, it’s dropped from the batch silently rather than failing the whole operation, the same behavior the rest of the document tooling already follows, so bulk edits don’t feel like a different, riskier feature bolted on the side.

Every applied change writes a record (which document, what changed, who did it), so a later question like “who reclassified this filing and when” has a real answer rather than a shrug. That record feeds the same audit trail that tracks model changes and access events elsewhere in the workspace, not a separate log that only covers documents.

Access still governs what you see

The library doesn’t sit outside the access control that gates the rest of the workspace. What you can browse, filter, and bulk-edit here is exactly what your folder permissions already allow: there’s no separate “everyone can at least see the list” mode that leaks titles or metadata for documents you couldn’t otherwise open.

An honest gap, stated plainly

Department filtering has one known limitation worth naming rather than hiding: documents your team uploads directly into the workspace’s internal actuals don’t currently carry a department link in the underlying data, because those rows are scoped to the workspace as a whole rather than tied to a specific document id. The department filter and column don’t fake a value for those rows: they degrade to an honest empty state rather than guessing. If you rely on department-level document organization for internally sourced actuals, that’s a real limit today, not a bug you’ll notice later. Filed filings and anything with a proper document record are unaffected.
